Relighting a water heater pilot light

Here are some tips on how to relight your Charlotte water heater pilot light

The first step is to to turn off the gas-contrl know and turn the thermostat to its lowest setting. Before proceeding, wait for at least five minutes to allow the gas to clear. Stop what your doing and ask assistence from a professional if you smell gas after five minutes. Call the utility company for immediate service.

With the use of a plier or a wrench remove the outher and inncer acces covers for the burning chamber. Use a flashlight to locate the end of the pilot-light tube that extends from the gas-control valve into the burning chamber. Be sure that you can clearly see what you are doing and find a comfrotable spot when relightinig the water heater pilot.

Hold a match near the end of the pilot-light tube and turn the control know to the pilot position. Depress and hold the reset button on the gas-control valve (see illustration). Remove the match as soon as the pilot lights, but keep the button depressed for about a minute.

Step 4 – If the pilot does not remain lighted, repeat all these steps. Otherwise, turn the gas cock on the control valve to the On position, set the thermostat to the desired temperature and replace the access panels.
